![]() (The name means Summer House in Breton) TI HAÑV, Pontrieux,
Northern Brittany,
|
![]() There is a south facing private walled garden which is well maintained, with raised rose beds, ornamental trees and fountain. The doors from the house lead on to a large patio which catches the sun most of the day. One can always find a shady area to sit. There is a large attractive summer house which has an overhead heater and lighting. This area of the garden bathes in the evening sunshine. Garden furniture (table and 4 chairs on patio, sun lounger and table and two chairs in summer house) and a barbecue are provided. Ti Hanv is for a romantic break, for a couple - not for children or pets. ![]() Buy fresh food locally and eat at home, in doors or al fresco in the garden. The kitchen is very well equipped for preparing meals. Pontrieux has two boulangeries, a boucherie and a good size Intermarche supermarket. Fresh local seafood is a speciality of the region. On other days, eat out at restaurants in the village, including a Pizzeria, two traditional French crêperies both serving a wider variety of cuisine, the Pontrev Hotel, La Sterne, and two restaurants serving ‘Ouvrier’ meals at lunch time for about 11.50 Euros. There are two pubs in the village - the Schooner on the River by the harbour, which also serves brasserie type meals, the PMU bar near the church which also serves coffee and is a tabac selling newspapers, magazines etc. There is Internet connection at several places –e.g. the Schooner pub on the river where you can connect for FREE. |
Pontrieux—‘Petite Cite de Charactere’
Pontrieux, in the beautiful Côte d’Armor, is ideally situated to explore the Breton countryside with its villages, towns, castles, dolmens and harbours. It is within 25 minutes drive of large sandy beaches, Côte de Granit Rosé, and miles of stunning coast line.

This ‘Petite Cité de Charactère’, dating from the 15th century, is at the bridging point of the River Trieux. It is famous for its Lavoirs or wash houses (51 in total) and is renowned as a Ville Fleurie (4 stars).
Pontrieux has a market on Monday mornings and there are many organised events held during the summer season: every Friday night free entertainment, in July the Pardon Notre Dame des Fontaines and the Fest Noz (Breton dancing) and in August a ‘live’ painting competition, the Marché d’Antan (market of yester year), and the Fete des Lavoirs (15 August) - with its procession of washer women and sailors and free musical entertainment including fireworks on the river. The village is illuminated at night. Trips on the river in small boats can be made both day and night.
Local attractions include: Château de la Roche Jagu, cathedral town of Tréguier, Lannion with the best market in Brittany (Thursdays), and speciality boutiques and shops in Guingamp and St Brieuc. You can take the steam train from the seaport of Paimpol to Pontrieux, running alongside the river.
A poem, left by guests from the Netherlands who thought this described the gite and area.
Les fleurs
Sont autant d’yeux
fermés pour se raconter
ouverts pour s’unir au ciel.
Autant de soleils
à demeure dans le temps
en communion avec l’azur
pour désennuyer notre coeur.
S’en approacher, les sentir
c’est taire nos soufles
devenus des regards de silence,
c’est surtout le refus
de sortir d’un rève.Une poème de Jean Albert Guénégan
